Effective use of natural resources of post-mining territories and objects involves the organization of justified liquidation of mining enterprises, land recultivation and revitalization, use of residual mineral resources, development and secondary processing of mining waste, reorganization of production on vacated and newly built objects, creation of recreational zones and objects of the nature reserve fund, development of active tourism and use of renewable energy. The specifics of the implementation of optimization measures within the Western region of Ukraine are considered. The purpose of the work is to substantiate a set of optimization measures aimed at effective use of natural resources of post-mining territories and objects. Using the example of the Western region of Ukraine, the specifics of implementing these measures for areas within which coal, oil, gas, ozokerite, native sulfur, sodium, potassium and magnesium salts were mined are considered. Today, new projects are being implemented to improve the efficiency of the use of natural resources in post-mining areas, but they are mainly of a local nature. It is worth noting the efforts to create recreation and leisure areas, nature conservation sites, use of mining waste, and the development of alternative energy. New post-mining territories and objects continue to form within the studied region. Their condition depends on the level of implementation of the program for the restoration of anthropogenic transformed space, the implementation of recultivation works, the development of mining waste.
