Issue: №9/2, 2019

The article analyzes the current state of the development of organic farming in Ukraine. The theoretical foundations of organic farming are determined and its advantages over traditional are clearly outlined. Organic agriculture is an effective way to preserve nature and supply the population with food. The main analytical indicators of the development of the industry in recent years are given. Organic isn’t too expensive – conventional is too cheap. Current economic systems make it more advantageous to damage the environment and exploit people than to protect our natural resources and enhance societal well-being. The dynamics of the development of organic agriculture is determined. Ukraine ranks first in the Eastern European region in the area of certified organic arable land, specializing mainly in the production of cereals, legumes and oilseeds. The number of organic market operators, the total land area with the status of organic and land in transition are analyzed. The regions with the best trends in the development of organic farming are highlighted. The largest number of operators in the organic market is located in Kyiv, Odessa, Kherson and Lviv regions. The leaders in areas of organic agricultural land and land of transitional period are Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr and Poltava regions. The largest amount of organic land is located in Odessa, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr and Kirovograd regions. The smallest number of organic lands is differed in Chernivtsi, Sumy, Ivano-Frankivsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. It is established which factors may have an impact on the development of organic production. One of the complex issues of organic market development is the lack of regulation of the legal framework, which complicates the work of domestic organic producers. Local organic markets are growing around the world. This gives local consumers the opportunity to obtain fresh nutritious food, and also has great potential to improve the livelihoods of small farmers in developing countries. The importance and effectiveness of the development of organic agricultural production is substantiated. References 1. Organic Agriculture and Food Security (IF- OAM Dossier 1, 2002).
