Introduction. The problem of ensuring the economic security of enterprises is becoming increasingly important in conditions of economic instability, intensifying globalization processes, and growing competition. Despite substantial research in this area, the dynamic business environment, emergence of new threats, and digitalization of the economy necessitate further investigation of enterprise economic security. The purpose of the paper is to analyze the theoretical foundations of enterprise economic security, systematize existing approaches to its definition, identify their advantages and limitations, and propose a comprehensive author's definition that reflects modern business conditions. Results. The study systematizes various interpretations of enterprise economic security in Ukrainian scientific discourse and identifies six main conceptual approaches: protective, resource-functional, sustainability-oriented, harmonization, information-based, and systemic. Each approach has distinct advantages and limitations. The protective approach clearly identifies threats but is primarily reactive. The resource-functional approach optimizes resources but doesn't account for all security aspects. The sustainability-oriented approach emphasizes stability but presents challenges in assessment. The harmonization approach considers stakeholder interests but faces difficulties in balancing them. The information-based approach provides clear data protection measures but has a narrow focus. The systemic approach offers comprehensive coverage but is complex to implement. Conclusion. Enterprise economic security is a multifaceted concept requiring an integrated approach that considers all determinant aspects of business operations. The proposed definition characterizes it as a comprehensive state reflecting an enterprise's ability to function sustainably through interconnected preventive and active measures aimed at efficient resource utilization, protection against threats, harmonization of stakeholder interests, and achievement of strategic goals in a dynamic business environment, including through digital tools.
